CITY WASTE | Waste Management • Waste Collection for Homes, Estates, Projects and Organisations
Environment Safety

Safe information leads to safer collection plans.

Correct waste identification, controlled loading and clear access protect people, property and the environment.

Declare unusual or controlled materials early.

Unknown liquids, chemicals, paint, fuel, batteries, cylinders, asbestos, healthcare waste, contaminated soil and pressurised containers cannot be treated as ordinary general waste. Send close-up photographs, labels where safe to photograph, estimated quantities and information about leaks or damage.

Specialist services are offered only after assessment and subject to appropriate classification, containment, transport and authorised handling or disposal arrangements.

Emergency warning: Do not use the quote form for an active fire, gas release, dangerous spill or immediate threat. Contact the appropriate emergency services and keep people away from the area.

Prepare the site before collection

01

Keep access clear

Move vehicles, unlock gates and identify stairs, lifts or narrow passages.

02

Separate waste

Do not hide heavy, sharp, liquid or hazardous materials in general bags.

03

Protect people

Keep children, pets, customers and uninvolved staff away from loading areas.

04

Follow the plan

Only present the materials approved in the confirmed collection scope.

Identify the waste stream

Materials that need separate assessment

Do not place these materials in ordinary rubbish bags, skips or mixed loads unless CITY WASTE has reviewed and approved the exact contents.

01

Chemicals, paint and oils

Provide product names, labels, approximate quantities and container condition. Never combine unknown liquids or pour them into drains.

02

Asbestos-containing material

Do not cut, break, sweep or disturb suspected asbestos. Keep people away and request specialist guidance before any movement.

03

Batteries and electronics

Separate loose batteries and damaged devices from general waste. Report swelling, heat, leakage or fire damage immediately.

04

Healthcare and sharps

Needles, blades, contaminated dressings and medicines require suitable containers and an authorised healthcare-risk arrangement.

05

Cylinders and pressurised items

Declare gas cylinders, aerosols, fire extinguishers and other pressurised vessels, even when they appear empty.

06

Contaminated soil and liquids

Explain the source of contamination, estimated volume and known substances. Sampling or classification may be required.

Before we assess the job

Send a complete information pack

Accurate information helps determine whether the waste can be collected, what containment may be required and whether a specialist service or authorised facility must be involved.

  • Wide photographs showing the complete load
  • Close-ups of labels, warning symbols and containers
  • Material names and available safety data sheets
  • Estimated litres, kilograms, item count or container size
  • Details of leaks, damage, odours, heat or contamination
  • Full address, access restrictions and site contact
Collection-day safety

Keep the working area controlled

  1. 1. Confirm accessOpen agreed gates, reserve the loading point and advise security or management.
  2. 2. Isolate the areaKeep children, pets, customers and uninvolved staff away from vehicles and loading activity.
  3. 3. Present approved wasteKeep streams separated and present only the materials included in the confirmed scope.
  4. 4. Report changesTell the team before loading if quantities, packaging or site conditions differ from the quote.
Responsible planning

How the appropriate route is decided

Classify

The material description, condition and available documentation are reviewed before acceptance is confirmed.

Contain

Suitable packaging, separation and loading controls are identified for the actual waste stream and site.

Transport

The proposed vehicle and handling arrangement must suit the material, weight, access and applicable requirements.

Direct

Reuse, recovery, treatment or disposal options depend on condition, contamination and authorised-facility acceptance.

Assessment note: A website enquiry is not confirmation that regulated or hazardous material has been accepted. Collection proceeds only after the material and service arrangement have been approved.

Environment safety FAQs

Questions before requesting collection

Can controlled waste be mixed with ordinary rubbish?

No. Keep it separate and disclose it before booking. Mixing materials can create chemical, fire, contamination and handling risks.

What should I do with an unknown container?

Do not open, smell, move or combine it with other waste. Keep people away, photograph it from a safe position and obtain appropriate specialist advice.

Can asbestos be placed in a skip?

Not as ordinary rubble. Suspected asbestos must remain undisturbed and requires an appropriately assessed specialist arrangement.

Why are labels and safety data sheets important?

They help identify hazards, incompatibilities, handling precautions and possible receiving requirements. Provide clear photographs or copies where available.

Does CITY WASTE accept every controlled material?

No. Acceptance depends on accurate disclosure, assessment, suitable containment, route availability and an appropriate authorised handling or disposal option.

What if there is an active spill, fire or gas release?

Keep people away and contact the appropriate emergency services. Do not wait for a collection quote or use an ordinary waste-removal service for an active emergency.
